If your child finds their year too easy, Ponder can stretch them. The next-year challenge is a hard test for their own year. Score 85% and Ponder unlocks next-year learning, while their official school year stays exactly the same.

How it works
Four steps, with grown-ups in charge.

A parent or teacher starts it
From the Family space, a parent opens the challenge for their child. From the class roster, a teacher opens it for a student.

The learner takes a hard test
20 multiple-choice questions pitched at the top of their own year. A timer is there only if they want to see it, and answers can be changed until they submit.

Ponder scores it
Questions reach the device without answers. Ponder’s database marks the attempt, so the result can’t be worked out in the browser.

85% unlocks next year
A pass opens next-year learning in Ponder for that subject. Not this time? There are two attempts a week, so there’s time to learn between tries.

An adult starts every challenge. Families see their own child’s results, and teachers see their own class. When a family and school are linked, the family also sees the school’s challenge results.
Hard on purpose, kind about it
“Not this time” is a normal result. There’s no public ranking, and the next try is only a few days off.

Does passing change my child’s school year?
No. Their official school year stays exactly as it is. Passing only changes the level of learning Ponder offers them.
What is the pass mark?
85% or more. On a 20-question challenge that means 17 or more correct. It’s high on purpose: the aim is to find learners who are secure across their year’s work, not just having a good day.
How many times can my child try?
Two attempts per challenge each week. Starting a challenge and leaving before submitting doesn’t use an attempt.
Is the Challenge Check the real test?
No. The Challenge Check is a free 5-question taster scored in your browser. The real next-year challenge is 20 questions for the learner’s year, started by a parent or teacher in Ponder and scored by Ponder’s database.

Maths and English challenges come first, with more subjects to follow.
Who can see the results?
The family that ran the challenge, or the teacher of the class that ran it. When a family and school are linked, the family also sees the school’s challenge results. There are no public rankings.
